Storage Bed -- A Bed That Makes Good Sense
60I think that the concept of the storage bed is amazing. Here is a bed that stores its own sheets, and anything else you can easily fit into its drawers. What a great idea! This type of bed would work well for a friend I have. She stores various and sundry items under her bed. The bed is nice, but it is not a storage bed. She has used some plastic bins, and there is some order to it, but if the bed slides a little, or if her hubby accidentally brushes a bin with his foot getting into bed, then the bins are no longer completely covered by the bed. It is an uneven, inelegant system my friend uses. A storage bed would better suit her needs. It is the right solution for my friend.
Perhaps, a storage bed is the right solution for you, too.
As with anything, storage beds have drawbacks, though I think the list
is rather short. In my experience, this type of bed is heavy. Factor
this in with the fact such a bed can be awkward at moving time, and it
is a consideration. In short, a storage bed will be tougher to move
than -- say -- a regular bed. Another drawback depends upon the quality
of the bed you buy. In home furnishings, you really do get what you pay
for. There is no doubt. With regard to storage beds, paying less only
gets you the look of a bed with drawers. In fact, paying more buys you
quality craftsmanship and longevity. If you have to buy a discount
storage bed, just be sure not to put anything too heavy into -- or
over-stuff -- the drawers.
But that's really all I have to say at this time about drawbacks.
The
reasons to buy a storage bed also amounts to a short list -- but it is
formidable. If nothing else, you buy a storage bed for the extra
storage space it gives you. At the very least, you can store your bed's
sheets within the framework of the very bed on which the sheets are
used. (I may not have written that sentence simply, but it is a simple
system, indeed!) In addition to sheets, you can store rolls of wrapping
paper in there. You can store clothes in the drawers, of course. One of
the drawers might be a good place to store magazines and paperback
books -- things to read before bed.
You might even store some
unmentionables within. (Oh, dear!) The point is that the drawers on a
bed with drawers give you options -- added places to put things you
need to stow.
Now, that's what I call functional furniture!
